I was very much impressed with this super simple yet flavorful protein rich recipe. Then I did my little research. I also tried this recipe several times at home and finally, I am sharing my best result with you.This is a very simple recipe.This moong dal recipe very light and easy to digest.

The original restaurant style recipe uses tomato paste or finely chopped tomatoes.But somehow, I like to have tomato chunks in my dal recipes which is clearly visible in pictures as well.PCN-moongdal-recipe

The origin of the recipe is Punjab As Punjab has a wide variety of dal /lentils recipes.  One of the most loving parts of the Punjabi lentil recipes is “preparing tadka”. If you have a passion for cooking then you might have the same feeling just like me.😀

This moong dal fry OR yellow dal fry recipe goes best with rice, jeera rice or roti.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup moong dal soaked
  • 2 cups water to boil dal
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp cumins / jeera
  • a pinch of asafoetida / hing
  • 2 tbsp ginger-chili-garlic paste
  • 1 medium tomato chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Clarified butter / ghee
  • fresh coriander for garnishing
Instructions
  1. Wash your moong dal in running water and put it in a pressure cooker.

  2. Add 2 cups water in pressure cooker and allow to boil it for 3-4 whistles on medium flame.

  3. keep the dal aside.Heat ghee in Kadai.

  4. Add cumins. When they crackle, add asafoetida(Hing).

  5. Add ginger-chili-garlic paste and saute it for a while.

  6. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt.

  7. Mix it well. Cook the mixture until tomatoes are softened.

  8. Add boiled dal.

  9. Cook the mixture for 5-7 mins on medium flame.keep stirring.

  10. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
