To make dal fry recipe cook toor dal really well. Once it is done,use a masher or a ladle and mash up well like you will do for baby’s food. It is the dal itself that gives this dal fry recipe the required creaminess as we are not adding anything special or extra for richness. We are using chana dal to add a bit nuttiness to the recipe

To make restaurant style dal fry recipe, add butter along with oil for sauteing.

This dal fry is lightly spiced and with sublime flavors. Even toddlers and kids s who are not fond of eating bland dal rice will enjoy this flavorful dish.This is best eaten with rotis or jeera rice,steamed plain basmati rice along with ghee.

The consistency of dal fry recipe is your choice, you can make it a bit thick if you are serving it as side dish and make it a bit thin if you want to mix it with rice and eat.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1.5 to 2 cups water to boil dal
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp cumins
  • 1 tbsp ginger-chili-garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup onions chopped ,1 medium
  • 1/2 cup tomato chopped,1 medium
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • fresh coriander for garnishing
Instructions
  1. Boil you dal first. to boil, wash toor dal and chana dal well.

  2. Add dals and water and pressure cook dal for 4 whistles or 15 min on medium flame.

  3. Mash your dal well and keep it aside.

  4. heat kadai and add oil.

  5. Add cumins. when they crackle, add garlic,ginger and green chilies.

  6. Saute them until golden brown.

  7. Now, add onions and saute well on high flame.(until golden brown)

  8. Add tomatoes,salt , red chili powder, turmeric powder and mix them well.

  9. cook tomatoes until mushy.

  10. Now, add boiled dal and cook the mixture for 5 to 8 mins on medium flame.

  11. Garnish with coriander.

  12. Serve hot.

Recipe Notes
  • You can use a combination of ½ cup toor dal and ½ cup moong dal in this recipe.
  • Use ghee for enhanced flavor and taste instead of oil.
  • it is recommended to soak both dals in water for 30 minutes before cooking.
