This recipe is very light to consume and very easy to make. I didn’t add any dry fruits in this recipe. you can even use regular potato cubes instead of baby potatoes. aloo-biryani-priyascurrynation

I always use boiled potatoes even for frying as this trick is really a time saver for me. potatoes take time to cook perfectly while frying. So I usually pressure cook it before use and allow it set at room temperature.

Ingredients
  • 6-7 nos baby potatoes
  • 1 medium onion sliced , for the brown onions
  • 5-6 tbsp oil will be sufficient for whole process
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • a pinch of asafoetida / hing
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 small tomato chopped | optional
  • 1.5 cups cooked basmati rice *check notes
  • 1/4 cup curd
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp biryani masala
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander
  • 2 tbsp saffron milk
Instructions
  1. pressure cook your potatoes and keep it aside.

  2. Heat oil in a pan.

  3. add sliced onions.

  4. fry them until golden brown.keep aside.

  5. in the same pan, fry your potatoes. keep it aside

  6. Heat oil in a pan.

  7. add cumin. When they crackle, add asafoetida.

  8. add ginger garlic paste.

  9. saute.

  10. add onions and saute it.

  11. add tomatoes if you like.

  12. add salt to your taste.

  13. add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and biryani masala. mix it.

  14. add fried potatoes.

  15. add yogurt.

  16. cook the mixture for 3-4 mins.

  17. add cooked rice and make an even layer of rice.

  18. add saffron milk.

  19. cover with a lid and cook it for 7-8 mins.

  20. Sprinkle some coriander and fried onions.

  21. serve hot.
