basmati rice
long grain

to boil rice
salt to taste

ghee / clarified butter

bay leaf/ tejpatta

black cardamom

jeera / cumins

Instructions
Soak 1 cup basmati rice for at-least 1 hour.
heat ghee in pan.
add bay leaf,cardamom and cinnamon stick.
Add sliced onion and saute it.
add sugar and cook the mixture until caramelized.
once the mixture is caramelized enough, add soaked rice.
Add 2 cups of water.
Add salt according to your taste.
cook the rice until soften.
Serve hot with dhansak.

Notes
always soak basmati rice for at-least 30 mins to 1 hour before use.
use fine quality long grain for best results.
