Ingredients
to boil dal:

chana dal /bengal gram

of asafoetida

or as per your taste
salt to taste

of garam masala

for tempering / tadka :
¼

oil

ghee / clarified butter
a
pinch
cumins
a
pinch
red chili powder
Instructions
to boil dal:
wash chana dal and toor dal first and add into pressure cooker.
Add finely chopped spinach / palak.
Add turmeric powder.
Add water and cover with lid.pressure cook the dal for 4-5 whistles on medium flame.
keep your boiled dal aside.
for dal preparation:
Heat oil in a pan.
Add cumins and asafoetida.
Add ginger,garlic, green chilies and onions.
saute it for a while.
Add turmeric powder and mix well. cook the mixture until softened.
Add red chili powder, salt, and garam masala. mix well.
Add boiled dal.and mix.
Cook the dal for 6-7 minutes on medium flame.
for tadka /tempering:
heat oil+ghee.
Add cumins. when they crackle add red chili powder.
Pour this tadka on dal.
Serve hot.
Notes
you can avoid chana dal or bengal gram.
you can avoid the final tadka OR tempering process if you want to keep your dal really simple.
you can add tomatoes if you like. I don't like tomatoes in my dal palak so i am not using it. If using, Use 1 small tomato for this measurement.
