today’s Kanda Batata poha is sweet and sour in taste because I have added both sugar and fresh lemon juice.

I have prepared this poha recipe in Just 5 mins.you might be surprised that potato takes the time to cook well then how can I managed to prepare it in just 5 min!!!!!!The secret is Mccain frozen french fries 😉 YES I have used plain french fires pieces here as Iwas in hurry and it tastes great.Do try it and let me know.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup flatten rice/beaten rice/ Poha Thick variety
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste OR grated ginger optional
  • 1 medium potato ,chopped (boiled) I am using Mccain French Fries HERE
  • 2-3 tbsp green peas frozen or fresh
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds / rai
  • 1/8 tsp cumins / jeera
  • 5 nos curry leaves
  • a pinch red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric /haldi powder
  • besan sev for garnishing
  • Lemon wedges to squeeze
  • sugar to taste
  • coriander leaves /hara dhaniya to garnish
  • 1 small tomato to garnish
Instructions
  1. Take a strainer first and transfer 1 cup poha in that.

  2. Rinse poha in running water.make sure that you do not rinse it too much or else it breaks and gets mushy. while rinsing, the poha absorbs enough water and it becomes soft.

  3. The poha must become soft but remain intact, whole and separate.

  4. If the poha does not become soft, sprinkle few drops of water on the poha in the strainer till they get softened.

  5. meanwhile, chop onions and fries in small pieces.

  6. Heat oil in nonstick pan.

  7. Add mustard seeds and cumins. When they crackle add Curry leaves and onion.

  8. Add ginger paste,matar and potatoes.

  9. Add Salt,turmeric powder,Sugar,Red chili powder and mix well.

  10. Cook the mixture for 2 min.

  11. Add soaked poha into the mixture and mix well using wooden spatula.

  12. Turn off the flame.

  13. Garnish poha with besan sev,tomato and coriander leaves.


  14. At time of serving squeeze some lemon juice.

  15. Serve hot.

Recipe Notes
  • Because I was in a hurry I used Normal Mccain French fries instead of potato here. Traditional recipe always has boiled potato.You can use it.
  • I have not tried any other potato product from mccain so i don't have any idea how it tastes with this recipe.
  • You can use fresh matar as well.But it takes more 4 mins to cook well.
