Masala chaas recipe with step by step photos - Masala chaas or spicy buttermilk is nothing but a yogurt blended with cumins,chilies and other spices.
There are many recipes in india which is versatile. Each region of india have their own verion and buttermilk is one of them.This is very simple recipe but yet i wanted to share my version here👀.


If you are regular visitor of blog then you might remember that i have shared few basic recipes like homemade dahi,ghee etc.
I have also shared Mattha recipe which is also a version of buttermilk. Maththa is widely famous in UP/mathura area. Maththa is a thick and fresh homemade buttermilk while masala chaas is quite thin in consistency as compare to maththa.

We gujaraties believes that our meal is incomplete without buttermilk.You can't imagine a gujarati home without "chaas / chach".

I am using homemade Curd here which i prepare daily.You cn use ready-made too.There is no special ingredient required in this recipe.

  Recipe buttermilk-how to make masala chaas

Prep Time :5 min
Cook Time :0 min
Total Time :5 min
Main Ingredient : fresh curd
Serves :2 glass
Cuisine :gujarat , indian

Ingredients:
  • fresh curd - 2 cups
  • water - 1 cup
  • salt to taste
  • green chili,small -1 no
  • ginger , grated - 1/2 tbsp
  • fresh mint leaves - 6-7 
  • cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp  
  • ice cubes - as needed [optional]
Method/Assembling: 
  1. Blend mint leaves, green chillies, ginger, salt, cumins and make a paste.
  2. now blend yogurt,water and mint paste together. blend well. 
  3. Serve it in individual glasses garnished with cumin powder or chaat masala. you can even use glass rimming technique.
Note:
  • you can use cumin powder instead of cumins.
  • always use fresh curd to get perfect taste.
  • consistency is vary according to your liking. Adjust water amount accordingly.
