 Easy Gujarati Mung Subji Recipe

First of all , EID MUBARAK to all my muslim readers. wishing you to have a great time with family.
The recipe i am going to share today is very traditional gujarati recipe- Chuta maag. This is very unique recipe which is made from Whole mung.


Chuta Maag OR dry mung beans has very simple but yet prominent flavor. It has very strong flavor of curry leaves and garlic. This chuta mag goes best with rice and Gujarati kadhi.

Recipe Details for making Dry mung beans curry below:

  Recipe choota Maag gujrati-how to make Dry mung bean curry

Prep Time :5 hours (check soaking & sprouting guide)
Cook Time :15 min
Total Time :15 min+ soaking time
Main Ingredient : Whole green Mung
Serves : 2 - 3
Cuisine :Gujarat

Ingredients:
  • Moong Whole green - 1 cup
  • Water -1 cup for soaking
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic paste -1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves / kury patta - 5 to 6 
  • Oil -1 tbsp
  • Water -2 to 2.5 cups
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Red chili powder- a pinch
  • Coriander- for garnishing
  • Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
    Method/Assembling: 
    1. Soak Whole green moongfor 5 hours in water [ Check soaking guide].
    2. Heat oil in pressure cooker.
    3. Add Mustard seeds.When they crackle add curry leaves.
    4. Add Garlic paste and saute it for a while.
    5. Add Whole soaked mung .
    6. Add water,salt,turmeric powder,chili powder and mix it.
    7. Pressure cook it on medium flame for 15 mins.
    8. Sprinkle coriander and serve hot.
