Onion Potato poha Recipe with step by step photos
Poha is the most staple and very famous maharastrian break-fast recipe. Apart from maharshtra there is a version called "Indori-poha" which Also manged to get HUGE followers ;) Poha is usually made with onion, potatoand flattened /beaten rice. Poha is very easy to make , easily digestible,Healthy , Nutritious and less  oil recipe.

Poha recipe has many variations as each family have their own recipe.There three most common types and these types are actually very famous.One is Poha with potato without onion,the another one is Famous onion poha and the third version is onion ,potato and poha together which i am going to share today.

today's Kanda batata poha is sweet and sour in taste because i have added both sugar and fresh lemon juice.
I have prepared this poha recipe in Just 5 might be surprised that potato takes time to cook well then how can i manged to prepared it in just 5 min!!!!!!The secret is Mccain frozen french fries ;) YES i have used plain french fires pieces here as i was in hurry and it tastes great.Do try it and let me know.

Recipe Details for making Kanda Batata Poha below:

  Recipe Kanda batata poha-how to make Onion potato poha

Prep Time :3 min
Cook Time :5 min
Total Time :8 min
Main Ingredient : Poha/flattened rice
Serves :1 plate
Cuisine : Maharastrian

  • 1 cup flattened/beaten Rice/ Poha, Thick variety
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 small size onion,chopped 
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste OR grated ginger [optional]
  • 1 medium size potato ,boiled (I am using mccain french fries HERE)
  • 2-3 tbsp Frozen matar
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds/rai
  • 1/8 tsp cumin seeds/jeera
  • 5 curry leaves / kadi patta
  • Besan Sev for garnishing
  • lemon wedges [To squeeze]
  • Sugar to taste
  • Coriander leaves/Hara dhaniya for garnishing
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • a pinch of red chili powder[optional]
  • 1 small size tomato,chopped for garnishing
    1. Take a strainer first and transfer 1 cup poha in that.
    2. Rinse poha in running water.make sure that you do not rinse it too much or else it breaks and gets mushy. while rinsing, the poha absorbs enough water and it becomes soft.
    3. The poha must become soft but remain intact, whole and separate.
    4. If the poha does not become soft, sprinkle few drops of water on the poha in the strainer till they get softened.
    5. mean while , chop onions and fries in small pieces.
    6. Heat oil in nonstick pan.
    7. Add mustard seeds and cumins. When they crackle add Curry leaves and onion.
    8. Add ginger paste,matar and potatoes. 
    9. Add Salt,turmeric powder,Sugar,Red chili powder and mix well.
    10. Cook the mixture for 2 min.
    11. Add soaked poha into the mixture and mix well using wooden spatula.
    12. Turn off the flame.
    13. Garnish poha with besan sev,tomato and coriander leaves.
    14. At time of serving squeeze some lemon juice.
    15. Serve hot. 
    • Because i was in hurry I used Normal Mccain French fries instead of potato here. Traditional recipe always have boiled potato.You can use it.
    • I have not tried any other potato product from mccain so i don't have any idea how it tastes with this recipe.
    • You can use fresh matar as well.But it takes more 4 mins to cook well.
