I am back here with another Simple, No OIL ,Healthy Recipe-Khichdi.
Also sharing Step by Step photos.
I feel so proud that We are the Founder of Yellow Khichdi-Yes you are right,Khichadi is the recipe founded in Gujarat.
Khichadi is very Simple recipe with almost no spices and that's why very few people likes khichadi. There are many variants of this recipe like Masala Khichadi, Khichdo ,Tempered khichadi. I have lot to share guys,but right now i am sharing very basic version.
This Khichdi Recipe is made with Rice and Green Moong dal. However you can use Yeloow moong dal as well-that will be an another version of Khichadi.
When you are preparing Khichadi make sure,your khichadi should be soft enough, that should be melt in mouth.
The other you should keep in mind is - Measurements. Water Measurement is very important in Khichadi.
For simple khichadi, 1 cup rice+dal = 3+1/2 cup water.
If you don't follow the measurement or add less water then this your khichadi will burnt.
At time of serving, Add some GHEE on hot Khichadi.It will enhance the taste. we gujaraties usually serve Ghee-Khichadi with kadhi.

   Gujrati Kheechdi-how to make yellow khichdi


Prep Time :20 min
Cook Time : 15 min
Total Time : 35 min
Main Ingredient : Rice , Green Moong Dal
Serves : 2
Cuisine : Gujarat

Ingredients:
  • Rice -  8 tbsp
  • Moong dal, Green - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 3 * 1/2 cup 
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Methi seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida -  a pinch
  • Peanuts - 5-6 nos
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Achar Masala - for garnishing
Method:
  1. Measure total amount of Rice+Moong dal in measuring cup. For this recipe My measurement of Rice + Moong dal is 1/2 cup.
  2. Put this 1/2 cup lentils and rice pressurecooker directly.
  3. Add  3*1/2 cup water.(i.e 1/2 cup +1/2 cup+1/2 cup)
  4. Add Methi seeds as well and soak them for 20 min.
  5. Now,Add salt,turmeric powder,asafoetida and peanuts. Cover with pressure cooker lid.
  6. Pressure cook them for 15 min OR 4-5 whistles on medium flame.
  7. Serve hot.
  8. While serving sprinkle some Achar Masala and pour some ghee.
Note:
  • Measurement of water and lentil is the key of this recipe.
  • You can avoid peanuts and methi seeds.
  • Achar Masala i am using here is for garnishing purpose only.
  • Be Prepared , You need to clean this mess while preparing khichdi.
