Rajma- Chawal is the CLASSIC combination from north india where spicy tangy kidney bean's gravy serve with plain rice.
Here is an attempt to recreate classic Rajma-Chawal combination to One-pot healthy meal which is perfect for your lunchbox.I tried to make this recipe very simple so Bachelor's -This one is for you guys. :P
At initial step, I made Green Paste using Green chili,Ginger,Lemon juice, Coriander and Garam Masala.After that I roast Onions and tomato with this green paste.Once your base paste is ready, The things you need to do is adding and mixing thats it :) ;).
The preparation time of this dish is the Time requires to soak Kidney beans (5hours approx) plus 20 min to cook rice and to boil rajma.For Soaking Details Check Out my Soaking and Sprouting Guide.
After preparing these things,just saute masala and mix rice and rajma well.
you can also use left over Rice. I am using Leftover Basamati  Rice in this recipe.

Rajma Pulao


Prep Time : 4 hours
Cook Time : 25 min(if rice is not ready) otherwise 10 min
Total Time : 4 hours + Cook time
Main Ingredient :Red Kidney beans
Serves : 3
Cuisine : Indian

Ingredients For Paste:
  • Coriander - 3 tbsp
  • Green Chili -2-3
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch
  • Lemon juice - 1tsp
  • Garam Masala - 2 tsp

Other Ingredients:
  • Cooked Rice - 2 cups
  • Kidney beans,Soaked and cooked - 1 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Red chili powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder -1 tsp
  • Onion ,finely chopped - 1 medium size
  • Tomato , finely chopped - 1 small size
  • Oil - 1tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
Method:
  1. Take all the PASTE ingredients into mixture jar and churn them to a paste. 
  2. Heat Oil in pan. Add Cumin Seeds. when they crackle add Asafoetida.
  3. Add Onions and Green Paste. Saute it for 4 min. After that Add tomatoes, tumeric powder and Salt.
  4. Saute it for 5 min and add Red chili powder.
  5. Mix them well and Add Cooked Kidney beans.
  6. cook them again for 3 min and add cooked Plain Rice.
  7. Mix them well.
  8. Garnish with Coriander.
  9. Serve Hot.
Note:
  • I am using Leftover Rice here.
  • Quantity of rajma will increased after soaking. It almost doubles.For Soaking Details Check Out my Soaking and Sprouting Guide.
  • All cooking procedure in this recipe is done on medium flame.
