Channa Pulao or Chickpea Rice is Simple flavorfull yet rare Recipe made at home.
Normally, we make Chole,Kala chana, chana masala as a main course with Channa (chickpea).Channa
is good source of fiber and protein and This is perfect Lunchbox and One pot meal Recipe.
For this recipe, I am using Kala Chana here however you can also use Kabuli Channa. Now a days you can easily get soaked Chana from vendors.I always store soaked channa in freezer as a backup plan.
This is quick and handy recipe when one does not have time and energy to cook dal, roti but yet want something nutritious, tasty and comforting.
I also add Arhar Dal (Pigeon pea) in this pulao as a variation.
This pulao has been made with Ghee and Basmati Rice. And you can also use Leftover Channa for this recipe. and this rice can be served with plain yoghurt ,Raita and salads.

  • I did not include separate soaking time of kala chana here.It takes 5 hours so you have to soak Chana a night before. For Soaking Details Check Out my Soaking and Sprouting Guide.
  • You can avoid Toor Dal.
  • You can also use Surti kolam or any other Rice instead of Basmati.
  • Kindly check rice after turning off the flame because sometimes Channa takes more time to cook.So after 5 whistle if required,Add 1/2 cup of water again and cook it for 2 whistles.
