Palak Dal recipe is the simple recipe which can be considered as main course recipe or dal| kadhies recipe.As it Name suggest the main ingredient of the recipe is PALAK or Spinach. When i heard Word Spinach I flown to my child hood memories - How i Dislike to have spinach like others kids in my meal and my mom gives me the example of Popaye-The Sailor man. She Makes me prepared to have Spinach and all greens because i really didn't like greens that time.

Now,The things are changed. Being a health Freek, I include greens in my diet 4 times a week by adding it into roties OR paratha OR in subjies. I have shared Thepla Recipe in which i used to add Fresh Fenugreek leaves(Methi) and Coriander, Palak Paratha in which i use Fresh Spinach and cheese and many more...

Moving to this recipe- Palak Dal is Versetile recipe as this have diffrenet versions. This can be made with Yellow Moong, Pink Lentil , Pigeon pea lentil OR Bengal Gram. I am sharing Yellow Moong dal version today.Yellow gram like other lentils and pulses is a good source of protein and dietary fibre.It is low in fat and rich in B complex vitamins, calcium and potassium. And Spinach is Good source of iron.&nbsp
I have Prepared Dal Palak with Onion and garlic.onions and garlic have a strong flavor and taste.It had the subtle aroma of ghee tempered with cumin.Because we are boiling Yellow Moong, It adds Creamyness.I love Dal Palak with Roti and Rice. This is Comfort meal.
You can Serve This With Plain Rice, Paratha OR Thepla.

Recipe Details below:

Dal Palak Recipe

Prep Time : 15 mins
Cook Time : 20 mins
Total Time : 35 mins
Main Ingredient : Spinach
Serves : 3
Cuisine : Punjabi

Ingredients:

  • Spinach - 1 bunch
  • Yellow Moong - 1 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Onion , finely Chopped - 1 medium Size
  • Tomato,finely Chopped 1 small size
  • Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chili Powder - 1 tsp | as per your taste
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Oil -1/2 tsp
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - a pinch
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Water -1 and 1/2 cup

Method / Assembling:

  1. Soak Moong Dal for 10-15 minutes.Mean While, Chop Spinach very well.
  2. Heat Ghee and Oil in pan. Add Cumin seeds. When Seeds crackle add Asafoetida.
  3. Add Garlic Paste and Onions. Saute it vey well.
  4. Add Tomatoes,Salt and All masala. Mix them well.
  5. Add Moong Dal and 1 cup water .
  6. Boil Them for 10 mins on medium flame.
  7. After 10 mins add Spinach and again Boil them.
  8. Boil them till dal get soft .
  9. Serve Hot.
Note:
  • I don't Pressurecook Dal here because Moong dal is comparatively soft dal And i also Don't want to make it too soft that you can't even recognize dal pulses in recipe. .
  • You can Avoid Tomato.
