How are you all??? I am back with another traditional recipe- Dal Dhokli.
Dal-Dhokli is the traditional Gujarati recipe.Being a Gujarati, There is no doubt that this recipe is very close to my heart.This is a dish considered as Sunday delights in Most of The Gujarati families. Friends, This is quite Different recipe as a spiced whole wheat Noodles (dhokli) boiled in a pigeon pea stew. This is the most comfort food we have in our Gujarati tradition. This is One-pot meal but it can be served with steamed rice too.
As, i said before, This is a combination of noodles which is Spice up by salt,Red chili  powder, turmeric powder,and a pinch of coriander powder And pigeon pea stew (yellow dal).The combination of these dal and noodles's flavors makes it unique.

Main Ingredients: Pigeon pea split(toor dal), Atta

Ingredients For Dal:
  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Ghee/ Clarified Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Red chili Powder - 1 tsp
  • Tomato,chopped - 1 tbsp
  • Jaggery - to taste 
  • Green chili , chopped - 1 nos
  • Ginger,grated - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander , chopped - for garnishing
  • Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 8-10
  • Lemon juice - as per your taste
Ingredients For Dhokli:
  • Whole wheat flour - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Red chili powder - a pinch
  • water - as per need

Method :

  1. First , pressure cook daal with water for 4 whistles
  2. Now, in a bowl mix all ingredients of dhokli and make a soft dough.
  3. Take a ball of dough and make Roti. Shape doesn't matter but make sure that dough should be spread evenly on surface.
  4. now cut this Roti in diamond shape and keep it aside.

  5. Heat oil in deep pan.
  6. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, when they crackle add curry leaves,tomatoes,chili ad ginger. saute it for a while.
  7. Add boiled dal into that and season with salt,chili powder,turmeric powder,jaggery. boil them for 2 mins.
  8. Now, in this dal mixture add the diamond shaped noodles and boil them well.
  9. Heat ghee in tadka pan,add 2-3 curry leaves and a pinch of red chili powder.
  10. pour this tadka on Dal.
  11. Garnish with coriander.
  12. Squeeze lemon at the time of serving.
  13. serve hot. 

Note:
  • Serve this dal immediately otherwise your dal becomes soggy 
  • you can use sugar instead of jaggery.
